Asbestos Management Survey in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex – Care Home Floor & Ceiling Sampling

An Asbestos Management Survey was conducted in a care home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, to identify any Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACMs) in the building and to ensure that the building is safe for occupancy.

Survey Approach & Findings

Our surveyors carried out an extensive inspection in areas that are accessible within the care home, specifically focusing on materials that are commonly associated with asbestos in buildings of this age and type.

During our survey, floor tiles and adhesive were identified as potential areas of concern, as these materials are commonly known to contain asbestos in buildings of this age. Furthermore, textured coating applied to ceilings was also identified.

To verify the presence of asbestos in these materials, controlled samples were carefully collected from floor tiles, adhesive, and textured coating applied to ceilings. These samples were then sealed and sent for further analysis to a UKAS laboratory.

Recommendations

Following testing, the client received a detailed asbestos survey report outlining:

• Locations and types of materials sampled
• Laboratory results confirming asbestos content (if present)
• Material condition and associated risk levels
• Clear recommendations for safe management, monitoring, or removal if required

Given the nature of a care environment, particular emphasis was placed on ongoing management plans to ensure minimal risk and full compliance with current asbestos regulations.

Outcome

The survey was able to provide the care home operators with a clear understanding of the asbestos-related risks within the building, which they could then use to safely manage the asbestos-containing materials.
