Asbestos Management Survey in Grays, Essex – Primary School Inspection

An asbestos management survey was carried out at a primary school in Grays, Essex, to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) within the premises and ensure the site is safely managed for staff, pupils, and visitors.

Survey Approach & Findings

Our surveyors completed a comprehensive inspection of all accessible areas across the school, including classrooms, corridors, service areas, and external elements where applicable.

Educational buildings often contain a variety of materials that may include asbestos, so particular care was taken to assess areas such as ceiling finishes, wall panels, service ducts, and structural components. Where materials were identified as potentially containing asbestos, controlled samples were carefully taken in line with HSE guidance.

All samples were securely packaged and sent to a UKAS-accredited laboratory for analysis to confirm the presence of asbestos.

Recommendations

Following the survey and laboratory testing, the client received a detailed asbestos report outlining:

• The location and type of materials inspected and sampled
• Laboratory results confirming asbestos content where applicable
• The condition and associated risk level of each material
• Clear recommendations for safe management, monitoring, or removal if required

Special consideration was given to the active school environment, ensuring recommendations support ongoing safe use of the premises.

The survey provided the school with a clear asbestos register, enabling effective management of any risks and helping to maintain a safe and compliant environment for day-to-day operations.
